Christmas
Story
Point Of Grace Point of Grace has won
the competition for bringing fresh inspiration to
an old genre. With an enlivening collage of
traditional hymns, rambunctious carols, and five
new original songs, the beauty of the season is
masterfully combined with the significance and
majesty of the event that it celebrates. A
Christmas Story delivers the pure magic of the
season wrapped in a package of classic Yuletide
sounds ranging from the bustle of horns and strings
to the tranquility of harps and bells. These songs
transcend the usual holiday tribute to happiness
with a joy that is infectious. The hymns, which can
too often be reduced to seasonal anthems, are
freshly endowed with an element of spiritual
intimacy. Still drawing on the vocal texturing that
has put them on tour with Amy Grant and Michael W.
Smith, these four best friends emanate an ethereal
quality through their sound. Precisely executed
melodies and harmonies give the perception of one
voice, while the gentleness of their tone recalls
the comfort of holidays past. This is a beautifully
crafted and produced album. It is not just
Christmas music--the spirit of Christmas itself is
imparted throughout the disc.

Christmas Eve and Other
Stories Trans-Siberian
Orchestra Is the Trans-Siberian
Orchestra's Christmas Eve and Other Stories a
holiday rock opera? Or perhaps just a holiday
prog-rock disc? Or maybe it's New Age? Whatever
the case may be, this isn't your typical
Christmas album. Filled with electric guitar
solos, plenty of synthesized keyboards, a
children's choir, and lively drumming,
Christmas Eve can only be compared to one other
record, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other
holiday disc, The Christmas Attic. On this CD,
angelic vocal solos (on numbers such as "The
Prince of Peace") are interspersed with driving
instrumentals. Sentimental, occasionally
bombastic, but as high-concept as holiday
albums can be.

The Story of
Christmas Swingle
Singers
Primarily A Cappella is proud to be re-releasing
the ever-popular Swingle Singers recording of The
Story Of Christmas. Long out of print, the
continued demand for this recording is
extraordinary, and a tribute to this English group
about which the Los Angeles Times extolled
'Everything about the Swingles is flawless'. They
take a collection of traditional carols and hymns
(The Boar's Head Carol, And Is It True?) and mix it
with some modern songs (Jester Hairston's Mary's
Boy Child) to tell the story of Christmas. This is
a well thought out arrangement of songs to tell the
tale that we know so well with interesting and
varied songs.
